Sad time - Gwens Passing - Gwen Myland 1st Oct 1924- 20th June 2017

Sorry to say that Gwen passed away on Tuesday 20th June, but she was in her own home with all her favourite people nearby.
This bright star who always had a smile will be sorely missed by us all.

A wonderfully kind thoughtful lady

The photo is on Hythe Beach, just prior to having a large plate of sole with lashings of melted butter. Gwens favourite

Gwens Funeral is on Thursday 29th June at St Peter & St Paul River Parish Church, Minis Lane, Dover. 12 noon.

Judith and Philip would like to invite you to join them for refreshments and share fond happy memories of Gwen after the service at the family home on Lewisham Road.

Internment is on the following day for family and close friends 10.30am St Marys Cemetery Friday 30th.

Gwen had been rushed into hospital on the 12th June with high blood pressure, swelling due to water retention and a heart problem.

She was rushed over to Ashford, but as she was thought not to be an acute case she was moved over to Canterbury.

They looked after her really well and managed to get everything under control.

We came down and went to see her on the Monday 19th and were there when the doctor did the rounds. She was pleased with Gwens progress and asked her if she wanted to go home, of which she quickly confirmed in the positive.

Doctor explained that she would have to walk with her walking frame at least 5m and then back to prove she was capable. Which she did without any problem. No shortage of breath at all. In fact she walked better than she had for a long time.

Had to leave her for a formal discharge, so we headed to Dover and got the place sorted.

They called me at 5pm and l went over and picked her up.

She was pleased to be coming home, yet quite short of breath. Took us about twenty minutes to get her up the steps and into the house. But she enjoyed the company and ate some salmon we cooked for her.

The following morning she was quiet and exhausted. Heather the carer came in, and we went to the local hospital to get Judith’s foot dressed. Within five minutes of getting there, Heather called in a panic, as Gwen was breathing badly. I dashed back whilst she called the emergency services.

They were amazing, two paramedics, a doctor followed by an ambulance team. They made her comfortable and she gently passed away.

She had wanted to be at home, and she achieved her wishes. Perhaps that’s why she had been so active in front of the discharge doctor. We will never know.

Life had not been good for the past year, so it was a pleasant release. As she always said, once the quality from life has gone, you might as well go yourself. And the time had come.

Some other photos of better times when she was enjoying herself. And she many of the 92 years enjoying life to the full.
