another week in Dover

Another week and the stress is still about. Gwen still refuses to accept that she has missed tablets. But that's life. Not worth getting too upset over, or making Gwen feel bad.

Honest l am not upset or worried

On the positive side, the rugby and winter Olympics are on, both of which give me endless fun in between the odd outing with the aunty from hell(kidding, she's a darling really!!!!) and a mother in law who seems to be on a different planet at times. It's so sad.
But we can only try.

Back to the fun. The first weekend of rugby was excellent although England should have beaten France. It seemed that they just ran out of steam.

Last weekend they did so much better, but then again is was against a really weak and underwhelming Scotland.

But the Wales Ireland game was truly memorable. Ireland are the new force in the five nations.

But Italy will come through one of these days. They just need confidence, and perhaps a non Italian work ethic.
Nothing better when the floods are rolling up the British countryside. Feet raised, fire burning, glass of beer in the hand and good set of lungs to oppose the referees decision.

Sunday morning, more sport. This time with Gary Lineker.
I made the coffee, he declined the offer, he was too busy raving over the first game. Liverpool v Arsenal.
Poor Arsene Wenger, his team didnt know what hit them.

5-1 and the first goal was in three minutes. what a game

Now we have the winter Olympics. WOW.
Watching things that have names like Luge, slopestyle, halfpipe and moguls and the commentators vocabulary which just defy s belief, especially when we have Brits in the finals. Back to back double, backside air, front side 10/80 followed by a front side nine hundred. What does it all mean? But their enthusiasm is just so infectious.

Then Jenny Jones wins Great Britain's first ever Olympic Snowboard medal in Sochi
Jenny Bronze
I was glued to the screen watching firstly the boys and then the girls. jenny had qualified 3rd, but that meant nothing. We had been there before with one of the lads.
Then Jenny went early and was put into the gold position. Then nails in mouth, knees knocking, feet tapping, we kept watching girl after girl come down with Jenny being knocked into silver place then bronze.
Being rather biassed we kept shouting for the girls to sit down, or put their hand down or even fall over. Very unsporting.
But she pulled it off.
A bronze medal.

 Well done Jenny

Up early and down to the Turkish hairdressers for a close cut, hopefully not too close. They are really good, especially with the cut throat razor and the flame thrower to remove the hair from the ears. Such a treat, but it does smell a bit.

Fortunately he only flashed the ears.

Next week we are taking the camper van up to Scotland in preparation for our 3three week trip round Scotland. Visiting Fort William, Mallaig, Arisaig, Ardnamuchan, Oban, Lochgilphead, Tarbet  and finishing at Cambeltown before getting a ferry back home.

But getting ahead of ourselves.

First off we are heading North stopping off midway to visit  Spinney Motorhomes. There was a problem with the electrics, they had me replace both the cab battery and the leisure battery ( at their cost) but there is still some leakage. So they are going to sort it. Hopefully. Need to get it resolved before we go on the three-week trip.

Have also been sourcing extra bits for our van on the advice of our motorhome experts, Brian and Catherine and Jo and Tony. So we have levellers to balance the van when its on a slope, roll out metal grill runners in case we go onto wet and soggy grass, non slip mats for the cupboards and a host of other little essentials. Be a bugger if after all of this we don’t enjoy motorhome holidays.
Should have all that we need, just in case

We are parking the van up in Scotland and coming back by train, Virgin to be precise. Its been a long time coming. Have purchased a senior rail card and this has enabled us to buy first class Glasgow to London tickets for £30 each, which includes giant seats, electric for the laptop and free wifi, a daily newspaper, drinks, and dinner, hot and cold running hosts, fluffy slippers and smoking jackets. Kidding , they dont provide the slippers or gown.
Cant be bad.

Before returning to Dover we have decided to stay over in London for a couple of nights. Its my birthday present from Judith. Possibly a visit to the national science museum, or the Turner Gallery, then again if the weather is good it may even be London Zoo. Then there are the restaurants!

Unfortunately, the South East network charge more for the 1 hour trip back to Dover in overcrowded, airless and smelly cattle wagons. So we made the decision to travel the 1 and 1/2 hours ona national express bus. More comfortable and only £5 for a senior. And it drops us off just up the road from Gwen.

Marco Polo

Then its our cruise on the Marco Polo, 14 days travelling the land of the Northern Lights.

But will add more once we start to get back on the road.
