Last day in Fort William
Up
early and the weather is not too bad. So it’s out for a walk at the base of Ben
Nevis.
Then
we headed off to climb the hill and get some good views over Fort William.
Virgin snow, and then the winds got up and the snow began to fall. But we kept
going and the eventual views once the blizzard stopped were truly amazing. Well
worth the effort.
By the time we got down the rain had started to dump itself on us, so we jumped into the car. Had our packed lunch of cheese, apple and the odd shortbread before driving along another deserted glen
More stags, plenty of mountains and water, but little else. The peace and tranquillity were amazing. But it was a Sunday. Midweek the single track road would have been heaving from the works traffic who were cutting through the mountainside to install two new hydroelectric plants.
We chose the right day.
Before we new it, the break was over and it was time to head back to Innellan. Not a hardship. And the journey back through the snow was rewarding, especially as we saw the Harry Potter Pullman slicing through the hills on its way back south.
Cold but clear,
although wintry showers were forecast for later on.
After a good walk
through the forest the top of the mountain seemed to open up, so we took the
opportunity of getting onto the gondola and heading up to the ski runs.
Being Sunday, they
had laid on some events, ice carving, meet the huskies, group ski down from the
top. So off we went. Me with my fear of heights. But we never got too far off
the ground fortunately.
Views
up the top were amazing, and the Huskies were fantastic. The dogs were being
looked after a ski maintenance man, whose intention was to eventually start
husky rides in the mountains. Good luck to him. We will be there.
