QM2 World Cruise Fremantle for the second and last time before heading across the Indian ocean

Saturday 14th March Fremantle 24 cloudy, but the forecast is good.

The Captain came on line this morning with a very important announcement.
We are now missing all ports for time being. No one is allowed to come on in Fremantle, crew or guests. Even the replacement Captain, captain Wells  will not come aboard. Our captain now needs to stay on through to Southampton.
All crew clap when they hear that the captain is staying on, they seem to really appreciate his management skill.

The captain outlined the new changes to our itinerary. They have cancelled the visit to the Reunion and we are now going to arrive earlier into Durban, with an extra night in Port Elizabeth. Its not surprising. I went on line and read that a bus carrying guests from another cruise ship had been attacked in Reunion. Another had been turned away from another island.
This Caronavirus is certainly changing the world, and fast.

The new itinerary therefore is
22 March Port Louis
26 Durban
28&29 Port Elizabeth
31st March 1&2 April Cape Town
4 April Wallis Bay

But they issue a caveat, that they currently have every intention of stopping at Cape Town, it may not be possible.
They then go on and say that anyone who wishes to disembark in Fremantle, they will receive 125% pro rata credit and fly you home.
From chatting to other guests it seemed that a few people had taken up the offer. But most of our friends were happy to continue, especially as it seemed that we would only have around 1300 passengers on board.

We meet up with Chris and Jill for an early breakfast. Its time for them to leave. They seem to have enjoyed it, so much so, that they would have liked to stay on board. Unfortunately Jills monthly infusion is due soon. Otherwise, l am sure they would have stayed on board. Flying home from Cape Town. Especially as they cant get to Canada.
Its a pity, it would have been great fun, especially as they have found their rhythm around the ship.
We collect their bags and head for the bus to take us to their house. Its an interesting journey, and you get to see and feel how large Perth is.
The house is far better than their description foretell.  Albeit, that it does need a fair amount of work to make it into what Jill would like.
We jump into Chris's big 4x4  and have a tour around the area that they live in, along with a visit to all of their previous homes/ houses. And this actually tells its own story, Jill's story. One that actually gives you an insight into her life in Australia.

From here we go into the bush. After all, we cant come all this way without feeling the outback, all be it sanitised by the sprawling conurbation of Perth. Drove up to a pub, come hotel, restaurant, playground come function area. Amazing. Mundaring Weir
Beer and food was great. The portion were that large we just had one portion of the chilli between the two of us.

On the way there we come across a massive earth moving vehicle. A giant of a thing.

We then went for a walk amongst the fly's, there were thousands of the buggers. Fortunately for us, they stayed with the person wearing a white T shirt. Judith.

Then into the bush to look for the wildlife, and we weren't disappointed. But not a Koala insight.

Before long, it was time to head back to the ship, so we headed back and it seemed to take forever. The traffic, being a weekend was mad. Chris took us the scenic route back along the Fremantle coastline. Stopping off to show us the beaches and art installations.

Guess what, they found an ice cream stand

Then it was time to say goodbye. Sad.
For us it was time to get back into the swing of cruising once again. But have a strong feeling that we will be seeing them again next year, or perhaps Christmas this year. One never knows.

Had dinner and a drink with Steve and Jean, then the quiz which we were  appallingly bad at, for a change. Then we played cards, and it was great. I won one game for a change. Steve was very unhappy. Yet we were all excited about the prospect of getting back to sea.
